ECB unveils Bosnian bank programme

(FRANKFURT) - The European Central Bank unveiled on Monday a million-euro (1.37-million-dollar) programme to help Bosnia implement European Union banking standards as it prepares for EU membership.

Following up on an assessment programme carried out in 2007, the ECB and the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina foresee closer cooperation in fields to include statistics, economic research and analysis, financial stability and harmonisation of legislation with the EU, a statement said.

Central bank experts from Austria, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain will work on the EU-funded programme with Bosnian central bank staff under the coordination of an ECB representative, it added.
