Croatia sentences nine for two-million-euro heist
(ZAGREB) - Croatian courts on Wednesday sentenced nine people to prison terms from four to 10 years for robbing two million euros from a post office in the southern city of Split, HRT national radio said.
Miroslav Hrsum from Bosnia was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in the March 2008 robbery and Serbians Zoran Stevanovic and Milan Mitic, still at large, were sentenced in absentia to nine years in prison each.
The prosecution said Stevanovic and Mitic had escaped with the majority of the two million euros (2.7 million dollars) after distributing shares to their accomplices.
The six others from Croatia, including an employee from the post office and one of its security guards, received sentences ranging from four and a half to eight years in prison.
