(SARAJEVO) - The European Union has approved 92 million euros ($127 million) for several projects of infrastructure development and reforms in Bosnia, officials said Wednesday.

"Two main areas on which we focused in this programmes... are rule of law and anti-crisis (economy) mesures," a top official of EU delegation in Bosnia, Boris Iarochevitch said after signing the accord with Bosnia's authorities here.

Iarochevitch in particularly emphasised the aid to projects supporting development of police structures and the strategy of fighting corruption.

Out of the 92 million almost a half, some 45 million, will be allocated to projects to improve the infrastructure, notably in water processing and public waste depots, said Nevenka Savic, head of Bosnia's Direction for European Integrations.

Some 32 million euros will be invested in projects of support to fight corruption and reinforce judicial and police institutions, she said.

The aid was approved from so-called IPA (the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance) funds, aimed at providing financial assistance to states who aspire to join the European Union or are already candidates for a membership.

Bosnia hopes to apply for EU candidate status this year or next, a key step on a long path toward full membership.
