Austrian unemployment rate, EU's lowest, up to 6.9%

(VIENNA) - The Austrian unemployment rate rose again in August to 6.9 percent, the ministry of labour and social affairs said on Monday, but it remains the lowest in the European Union.

In July, the jobless rate was 6.7 percent.

According to the European statistics agency Eurostat, which bases its calculations on different data, Austrian unemployment was 4.8 percent in July, the last month for which data was available.

That compared to 11 percent in the whole 28-member European Union.
