Czech EU presidency apologises for 'sensitive' data leak
(PRAGUE) - The Czech European Union presidency has apologised for a leak of "sensitive" data on politicians attending the EU-US summit in Prague earlier this month.
In a statement on its official website, the presidency admitted that "for a certain time period" a publicly accessible computer displayed information on officials taking part in the EU's summit with the United States on April 5.
"The unlucky situation was caused by unintentional human error of one of our employees," the presidency said, expressing "regret that this situation has happened."
"However, it needs to be emphasized that the file contained no confidential information according to Czech law and it contained minimum information that might have been seen as sensitive," it added.
The Finnish news agency STT said on Friday the data discovered in a Prague hotel computer by a Finnish tourist concerned the politicians' passport numbers, flight details and medical information.
The Czech EU presidency said "the information has been immediately removed from the relevant computer in order to avoid further spread."
"As the incident represents a serious breach of working obligations, we have taken the necessary personnel policy measures," the statement said.
