(BRUSSELS) - Europe is suffering "very important" economic damage due to the cuts in Russian gas supplies through Ukraine, a European Comission spokesman said Friday.

"It's certainly very important but (there is) no estimation at this point in time," European Commission spokesman for energy issues Ferran Terradellas told journalists when asked about the economic fallout of the cuts.

"We will have a clearer picture in the coming days," he added.
