EBRD grants Bosnia EUR 180m loan for key highway
(SARAJEVO) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on Tuesday granted Bosnia a 180 million-euro (226 million-dollar) loan towards the construction of a key highway, the government said.
The agreement on the loan to build four sections of the main road linking Bosnia's north and south was signed by Finance and Treasury Minister Dragan Vrankic and EBRD representative Peter Reiniger, according to the ministry.
The construction of almost 70 kilometres (44 miles) of highway is to be completed by 2012.
The planned 350-kilometre (220-mile) highway, part of the so-called VC Corridor that would link the Hungarian capital Budapest with the Adriatic coast, is expected to boost Bosnia's ailing economy.
The EBRD is one of the largest investors in Bosnia, having committed some 780 million euros in more than 70 public and private projects.
