EU nations on guard against Chinese milk products

19 September 2008, 12:32 CET

(BRUSSELS) - The European Commission has asked EU nations to be on the look out for any Chinese milk products entering the bloc, even though none is officially imported, amid a contaminated milk crisis in China.

The commission "has ... asked member states to boost border controls for all milk products coming from China," a spokeswoman on health issues told reporters.

She underlined that China does not export milk products to the EU, but the idea is to ensure that no such produce slips through the net from a third country.

Chinese authorities initially blamed the chemical melamine for killing four babies and sickening more than 6,000 others, with symptoms including kidney stones, being unable to pass urine, and vomiting.

But there were fears that the problem could be much bigger after other dairy products were found to be at risk of contamination, leading to mass recalls.

EU and chinese food products

Posted by Demir Arabaci at 20 September 2008, 04:40 CET

It is high time that any food, herbal products, medicine, hygene or personal beauty products that humans ingest, digest and/or apply to their skin, eyes, lips, scalp or whatever is clearly labelled in capital letters with appropriate warning signs and words that they are from china and they may be seriously detrimental to human and animal health.

Broccoli that comes from china may be covered in pesticides. Tooth paste made in china, which can be absorbed by the tender gum tissue very quickly, can contain PCBs and result in mouth or throat cancers in a dozen years down the road.

Eye wash products to relieve eye fatigue, cleaning solutions for glasses or contact lenses can contain extremely corrosive acids resulting in blindness at the very least.

Hair dyes and ladies beauty products such as lipstick, mascara or moisturizing creams etc can hide a multitude of slow acting cancer causing agents.

All that and more, despite what the importing and distributing western companies with household names would like you to believe as safe are wide open to continious or sporadic tempering any time a greedy chinese manufacturer or a totally ignorant former paddy field worker plays with the product integrity knowingly or through sheer ignorance.

It will take decades before health and safety concerns are respected and established and more importantly strictly administered in a country where profits come first.

The north American countries such as Canada and USA have sold out to the chinese in pursuit of bigger profits and bigger bonuses for the CEOs and are only paying lip service to the welfare of their citizens.

This is nothing short of premeditated murder in disguise.

The EU leaders MUST be more in touch with the risks abound and ensure that their countrymen women or children don't become the victims of greed and ignorance.

The chinese can afford to be blaise about their standards - or the lack of - and ignore the loss of a few thousand lives every year since that represents only a drop in their oceanic population, the leaders in EU and the rest of the world must act promptly and responsibly.

If these problems are not addressed now, it will be too late twenty years from now when innocent people will start dropping off through no fault of their own.

So, the message to the governments and the politicians of EU is; stop being subserviant to corporate profits and greed and take action now.

Stop this game of russian roulette.

When it comes to human lives and safety, I do not give a "Hooot" about political correctness and will not hesitate to call a "spade" a "spade" be it chinese or not.

If this message is found to be offensive by the chinese I have one thing to say "Tough titty". Clean up your act and become respectable if you want to earn my respect or
I will refuse to buy anything that is made in china even if I have to go without it.

My health and life is far too important to me to worry about a dent in the chinese pride.
