EU-Ukraine summit moved to Paris: French presidency

08 September 2008, 22:06 CET

(MOSCOW) - An EU-Ukraine summit due to take place on Tuesday has been moved from the French town of Evian to Paris, an official in French President Nicolas Sarkozy's administration said in Moscow.

The moving of the summit to the Elysee Palace in Paris rather than Evian followed delays in a trip by Sarkozy to Russia and Georgia intended to address the aftermath of last month's armed conflict.

Sarkozy, who holds the EU's rotating presidency, was due to discuss with President Viktor Yushchenko Ukraine's plans for closer ties with the European Union, which Kiev hopes will lead to full EU membership.
