EU says Bush to attend bilateral summit in Slovenia

19 May 2008, 18:23 CET

(BRDO PRI KRANJU) - US President George W. Bush and European Commission chief Jose Manuel Barroso will attend an EU-US summit here on June 10, a statement from the EU's Slovenian presidency said Monday.

The summit will focus on political and regional issues, global security as well as bilateral partnership, the statement said.

Slovenia is the first former communist state to hold the EU's six-month rotating presidency.

The June summit will be Bush's second visit to Slovenia after a 2001 visit where he officially met with then Russian president Vladimir Putin for the first time.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will also attend the summit along with the European Union's foreign policy chief Javier Solana and the European Council's current president, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa.
