EU's Ferrero-Waldner meets Saudi oil minister

14 April 2008, 14:11 CET

(RIYADH) - EU External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner met Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Ali Al-Naimi on Monday as part of a Gulf tour also taking in Bahrain and Qatar, state media reported.

The pair held talks in Riyadh on world oil markets and "work to reduce harmful emissions from fossil fuels," the official SPA news agency said in a statement without giving further details.

OPEC kingpin Saudi Arabia has the world's largest proven oil reserves -- 261.2 billion barrels or more than a quarter of the global total.
