EU says has not been warned of cut in gas supplies
(BRUSSELS) - The European Commission has not received a warning from Ukraine that it plans to cut supplies of Russian gas in transit for the European Union as Gazprom has claimed, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.
"At the moment, we need to receive a telegraph personally," said Marilyn Carruthers, a commission spokeswoman for energy issues.
Earlier Wednesday, Russian gas monopoly Gazprom accused Ukraine of planning to siphon off gas that Russia transits through Ukrainian territory to the European Union, as a payment dispute escalated.
