Gazprom warned EU of Ukraine gas cut
(BRUSSELS) - Russia's gas monopoly warned the European Commission that it would cut supplies to Ukraine by 50 percent in a debt war but underlined the EU would not be hit, an EU official said Tuesday.
"Gazprom told us of their intention to cut supplies to Ukraine by another 25 percent ... this will bring the total to around 50 percent," a commission spokesman said.
"They reassured us that gas supplies to the EU will not be affected," the spokesman said.
His remarks came as Ukraine's state gas company Naftogaz said that it may have to reduce gas deliveries to Europe if Gazprom continues to cut supplies to Ukrainian consumers.
