At a seminar on 13 September 2017 in Brussels, the WEEE Forum and EucoLight, two European trade associations that speak for e-waste producer responsibility organisations, will facilitate a high-level debate around the compliance of online retail platforms with EU e-waste (WEEE) legislation and ways to address free-riding behaviour among online sellers.

The OECD will present their report, which estimates the level of non-compliance in online retail sales and proposes a number of legislative initiatives to solve the problem. Other presenters and panellists include the European WEEE Registers Network, the Environmental Protection Agency in Ireland, Dell, the European Commission and representatives of the e-commerce sector.

Commenting on the seminar, Nigel Harvey, Recolight CEO and EucoLight board member, said "We are very pleased that this important issue is being given the high profile that it deserves. Non-compliance with the WEEE directive has negative environmental consequences and it put compliant producers at a competitive disadvantage. We look forward to hearing how the
issue may be tackled."

Pedro Nazareth, Amb3E CEO and WEEE Forum board member, will also present at the seminar, on which he said "Many e-sales platforms and businesses fail to register with producer responsibility organizations in OECD/EU member states even though they are acting as distant sellers. The seminar will be a great opportunity to identify issues and potential solutions."
