The Countries UK Businesses Are Moving to Post-Brexit

25 May 2017, 17:44 CET

It is not surprising that several companies currently based in the UK are considering a move to European countries as a response to the UK's decision to leave the EU. While the real impact of Brexit remains to be seen, changes in regulations and the uncertainty surrounding UK-EU cooperation has made businesses look into several countries in Europe as a possible destination for a relocation.

Earlier this year, we also heard big names such as Apple and Microsoft stating their intention of pulling out of the UK after Brexit. The list has grown since then. The latest survey revealed popular target countries too.

Moving to France

The majority of companies considering relocation are thinking about moving to France. Several reasons make France the perfect place for UK companies to set up their headquarters. For starters, France is the closest country to the UK, which means the whole relocation process will be a lot easier to handle.

There are many removal services capable of moving an entire office from England to France. France also offers many business districts with commercial buildings for startups and companies of any size. Supporting facilities are available, and most employees have no trouble adjusting to the move and new working environment.

France also supports business with its tax policies and regulations. UK companies can continue to take advantage of EU and local regulations to trade with clients across Europe while maintaining smooth operations and keeping overhead costs in check.

Ireland as a Save Heaven

Another prominent destination is the Republic of Ireland. Companies such as Apple are already taking advantage of Ireland's friendliness to corporations. The country has an amazing set of tax laws that allow companies to keep most of their operating revenue. On top of that, the country is also investing in infrastructure and supporting facilities.

Ireland also has amazing state and funding programs for businesses, including small businesses trying to expand their operations. Incentives are given through grants and government aids. There are also programs, including Enterprise Ireland, designed specifically to attract international businesses and help them set up operations in the country.

Last but not least, Ireland is the home of a capable workforce. The quality of Ireland's young, educated, and English-speaking workforce alone is encouraging many businesses to move their operations.

Other European Countries

Aside from France and Ireland, other European countries are also attractive in the eyes of UK companies. Germany is a particularly attractive destination for the UK's manufacturing companies due to the resources available. Poland and Spain are considered perfect for businesses looking for an affordable yet capable workforce.

We also have countries outside of the EU. Smaller tech startups are considering the United Arab Emirates, particularly Dubai and Abu Dhabi, as potential sites for their operations. Asian countries are bringing their manufacturing prowess and cheap labour to the table, attracting more UK businesses to the region.

The impacts of Brexit may not be crystal clear just yet, but UK companies are taking the necessary steps to maintain smooth operations and retain their leads on the market. These popular relocation destinations will soon be the home of more companies.
