World's first 'patient journey' round London cosmetic surgery clinic

17 September 2014, 17:29 CET

A 'world first' is how Google describes the use of its Street View technology to show us around the brand new MYA Fitzroy cosmetic surgery hospital in central London.

The UK's leading cosmetic surgery provider MYA has just announced the opening of the new flagship MYA Fitzroy hospital, which is the first cosmetic surgery hospital to feature what it calls a 'video patient journey' inside the hospital.

MYA world firstWhile we are all used now to Google Street View - which allows us to explore an area, wander down a street and look at any house we choose? this extension of the feature allows us to move from the street right into the hospital. Scary? Well, in fact this cyber-visit does no more than what estate agents have been doing for years, showing you around the inside of a house.

MYA Fitzroy's world-first 'patient journey' offers a prospective patient, who may feel unsure about whether to proceed, a comprehensive look around the facilities. It allows him or her to explore the consulting rooms, gauge the quality of the bedrooms, bathrooms and operating theatres, including moving from floor to floor ? and all from the comfort of their own sitting room.

They are unlikely to be put off. The hospital includes two operating theatres, recovery room, anaesthetic room and a 16-bedroom ward. And a 3 minute patient video allows viewers to see through the patient's eyes and experience the journey of having a cosmetic procedure at the hospital.

The new hospital, situated in the prestigious Fitzrovia of central London, means patients will complete their entire cosmetic journey under one roof, from consultation to procedure.

The hospital sees its Google feature as part of a strong focus on transparency, quality and patient care. MYA chairman John Ryan - who has played a pioneering role in developing the industry in the UK, and previously owned Europe's largest cosmetic surgery company - comments: "Not only are we confident about sharing our new hospital and the procedures that take place, we are the only major cosmetic surgery provider to publish full clinical data and have an online forum for patients. For a patient to make an informed choice, transparency is crucial. We challenge other cosmetic surgery companies to be more open."

With MYA pioneering a new era of transparency and openness within cosmetic surgery, it is forging a new patient experience-led form of cosmetics that has laid down a gauntlet, and certainly challenging others to follow suit.
