According to the European Commission the population of the EU is projected to reach 517 million in 2060. Nearly one third of the citizens will then be aged 65 or older.
While longer lives are a major achievement of European societies, ageing also poses significant challenges for their economies, healthcare and welfare systems.
However,
being old does not necessarily result in disease and disability. Older
adults can take action, even well into their 60s and 70s, to reduce the
risk of developing chronic disease and avoid injury.
The conference will look into current research over the ageing
process and discuss the feasibility of reducing the symptoms of ageing.
