Cyberlaw is a new phenomenon that has emerged since the advent of the
internet, which burst onto the scene in a completely unplanned and
unregulated manner. Even the inventors of internet could not have
anticipated the sheer scope and far reaching consequences of cyberspace,
which has grown at an unprecedented rate. The emergence of cyberspace
as a new 'environment' that people can inhabit has created various legal
challenges and difficulties. New issues are cropping up all the time.
In response to these newly emerging legal issues relating to cyberspace,
cyberlaw - or the law of internet - has emerged.
Cyberlaw applies many areas of law to computers and the online
environment, including intellectual property, contracts, freedom of
speech, privacy, and public access to information, defamation and tort
law and jurisdictional issues.
