Portugal sees public deficit of 2.8 percent next year

15 October 2004, 14:18 CET

Portugal should adhere to eurozone spending regulations next year, holding its public deficit to 2.8 percent of gross domestic product, Finance Minister Antonio Bagao Felix said Friday.

"The deficit is 2.8 percent" for 2005, he told a news conference in presenting next year's budget.

As a member of the 12-nation eurozone, Portugal is required to limit its annual public deficit to three percent or less of output.
