Lithuanian consumer prices shot up by 1.5 percent in May, the biggest rise in more than four years, after the Baltic country joined the European Union, the national department of statistics said on Tuesday.

It was the third consecutive month in which prices rose from the previous month.

Year-on-year consumer prices grew by 1.1 percent.

In 2003, Lithuania recorded deflation of 1.3 percent.
