In thirty years, the relationship between Canada and the European Union has evolved from one of simple cooperation into a strategic partnership. This relationship has deepened and widened to include a variety of actors, including EU Member States, Canadian provinces, notably Québec, the private sector, the research community and civil society among others. The signing of the 1976 Framework Agreement for Commercial and Economic Cooperation, the first to be signed by the EU with an industrialised third country, heralded a new era in Canada-EU relations.

This transatlantic partnership, founded on common values and aspirations, extends to a wide range of sectors, allowing Canada and the EU to meet the challenges of the 21st century together. This conference will provide an overview of Canada, Québec and European Union relations, enabling participants to not only assess this historical partnership, but also to generate perspectives for the future.
