Tymoshenko case press conference held in Brussels
More than 20 journalists, political scientists and experts gathered at the NCI-Euro Parliament to discuss the current situation regarding the 'Tymoshenko case', and the position of the Parliament of Ukraine on this matter. The press conference entitled "Why Yulia Tymoshenko is still in jail?" was held by the head of the Provisional Investigatory Commission of the Parliament of Ukraine, Inna Bogoslovska, on 10 April in the central area of Brussels.
Journalists and community leaders were informed of the final results of the work of experts from the Provisional Investigatory Commission, which worked during the past year under the aegis of the Parliament of Ukraine. On March 20, 2012 these results were heard by the deputies of the Ukrainian Parliament and they were approved by 266 deputies out of 450 members of the Parliament.
According to Mrs Inna Bogoslovka, the results of the probe proved the guilt of Yulia Tymoshenko in this case.
Mrs Bogoslovska, Head of the Provisional Investigatory Commission, emphasized that Yulia Tymoshenko is recognized guilty for:
à) concealing from the public and the authorities the facts of the conflict of interests and dependence on Russia - namely, the debt of her private companies to the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation in amount of 405 million US dollars and the criminal case on a charge of bribery;
b) holding of secret negotiations with the Prime Minister of Russia, in the result of which she agreed on signing of the unfair contracts that violated the provisions of the previous international agreements;
c) knowing that the government of Ukraine had refused to approve the Directives on signing of the contracts, she has approved them personally, though, only the Cabinet of Ministers, as the collegial body, has the right for such approval;
d) putting pressure on the head of the company and making him sign the contracts, threatening him with the dismissal.
According to the Ukrainian politician, Yulia Tymoshenko deserves the punishment under the criminal law, seeing that according to the investigation held by the Ukrainian legal experts, 11 EU member states have articles, providing the criminal penalty for such crimes.
Journalists asked questions about Ukraine, its position in Europe, negotiations on an EU-Ukrainian Association, and other topical matters in the present-day Eastern-European policy.
