best ideas were presented in a report to the European Parliament this
Collaboration was the recurring theme, with ideas on the EU-wide job market, unifying entrepreneurship resources and helping young businesses, pooling energy resources and investing in smart-grids. Enough maybe to inspire the EU's struggling leadership as well as MEPs - and also to show that the model of Europeans coming together to forge a common future is not a thing of the past.

1. Dieselgate: EU prepares case against VW
In its preliminary investigations into the Volkswagen 'dieselgate'
scandal, the European Commission reports that a majority of EU Member
States have uncovered breaches of the EU's rules on unfair commercial

Ireland must recover undue tax benefits of up to EUR 13 bn granted to
Apple, the Commission said Tuesday. This is illegal under EU state aid

The EU has announced the largest ever EU humanitarian aid programme,
signing a contract with the World Food Programme to provide EUR 348m in
aid for Syrian refugees in Turkey.

Member States lost a staggering EUR 159.5 billion in uncollected VAT
revenue in 2014, according to figures released in support of the
Commission's case for VAT reform.
5. Single certificate to tighten EU airport security
Tighter security for Europe's airports is promised as a result of a
proposal for a single Europe-wide certification procedure for aviation
security screening equipment.
6. EU proposes ban on new psychoactive substance
The Commission has proposed to subject the new psychoactive substance
MDMB-CHMICA, sometimes referred to as 'Black Mamba', to control measures
across the EU.
Sony: the sale of a computer equipped with a pre-installed copy of
Windows does not in itself contravene EU rules on unfair commercial
practices, the European Court of Justice ruled on Wednesday.
