The fight against mobile roaming charges was finally won this week. As of Thursday, you can call, send a text and browse the internet at the same conditions you enjoy in your home country, wherever in the EU you are travelling.

Launched ten years ago by then Commissioner Viviane Reding, the fight to end the charges was about more than cheaper calls. The most concrete and visible example of the advantages of the EU's digital single market was, as the now MEP says, about "freedom to travel, to feel at home, to no longer have to pay for crossing borders, but also to see the whole of Europe as home."
