Publisher's Note
================
The approach of the flagship 'Innovation Union' unveiled by
the Commission this week would focus EU research efforts on
key challenges like climate change, energy and food
security, health and the ageing population. The package
addresses obstacles to ideas getting to market such as lack
of finance, fragmented research systems, under-use of public
procurement for innovation and slow standard setting.

Research is a vital element of innovation. But there is some
concern that the Communication's emphasis on research is too
strong. Innovation is not just about scientific
breakthroughs, says EUROCHAMBRES chief Arnaldo Abruzzini.
"Strengthening Europe's entrepreneurial eco-system and
empowering more people to see themselves as innovators is
equally important."
