Gerflor has supplied a global flooring solution for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

gerflor 1Gerflor has supplied a global flooring solution for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company has provided the flooring for the volleyball, sitting volleyball and handball competitions, as well as for temporary structures for spectators and for 100 double-decker buses across London. Thanks to recommendations from Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB, the International Volleyball Federation) and the International Handball Federation (IHF), Gerflor was chosen to supply over 17,500 m² in Taraflex™ Sports Flooring for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Altogether, 50,000 m² of Gerflor flooring has been installed for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

For the 10th consecutive Olympic Games, taking place this summer in London, Gerflor has provided its Taraflex™ Sports Flooring. This has involved the installation of 10 volleyball courts in four different venues, eight handball courts in three venues, and five sitting-volleyball courts in two venues.

There are two crucial conditions to be selected as a sports-equipment supplier for the Olympic Games. The first is to be geflor 2recommended by international federations that are aware of, and therefore highlight, the products’ merits to the local Olympic Organising Committee. The second is to be chosen by that organising committee by providing a global and tailored solution.

Following several months of discussions with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) in order to determine specific requirements, Gerflor developed a truly tailor-made offer: Taraflex™ Sport M Evolution Eco-Fit™.

This free-floating Eco-Fit™ system is both economical and ecological. The system reduces the use of adhesive and volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions by 80%. The material used is easy to recycle when it is no longer needed, saving up to 50% of resources, in comparison with a standard solution.

Gerflor was called upon to provide a complete solution from manufacturing to delivery, installation, technical assistance and dismantling for all volleyball, sitting-volleyball and handball competitions at London 2012.

Gerflor has also provided 30,000 m² of Tarasafe flooring for the temporary structures and grandstand seating for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Additionally, Gerflor has supplied 6,000m² in Tarabus Helios NT flooring for 100 double-decker buses. A special colour has been developed specifically to equip these buses.

Since 1947, Gerflor has installed 40 million m² of indoor sports flooring, making it the world's leader. The company is once again providing its know-how and experience to serve the world’s greatest sporting event. Altogether, 50,000 m² of Gerflor flooring has been installed for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
