Shape Up This Summer to Keep Fit and Lose Weight
Over half of Britons have decided to start a new fitness regime in 2012 and get fit for the summer season, according to a recent survey.
Findings by BootsWebMD.com, a collaboration of pharmacy retailer Boots and WebMD, reveal that 53% of people have begun exercise this year; and the main motivation is to keep fit rather than lose weight.
More women (54%) than men (52%) have taken up a new fitness routine and young adults between 18-24 years-old are most likely to begin training (64%).
The study of 2,000 people found that 31% of consumers are more confident after implementing their summer fitness regimes however nearly one in five have sustained an injury. The most common injuries are bruises, and ankle and wrist sprains (26%) but further wounds suffered include pulling a muscle (23%) and hamstring injuries (19%).
Over a third of those who have started exercising this year turned to the web for fitness advice and information and the research suggests that sports fanatics need to take greater care when working out to stay healthy. A third of the injuries incurred have led to a long-term health problem.
