Severe Weather Warnings Cause Havoc for UK Businesses
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for parts of the UK as experts say the risk of flooding is the highest yet this year.
Forecasters have predicted up to a month’s worth of rain over the next 24 hours as well as heavy rain for the next three days. The Environment Agency has delivered a total of 87 severe flood warnings and the North East, Yorkshire, Midlands and East Anglia will be the worst hit.
Businesses and homeowners have been warned to brace themselves as a twisting funnel cloud was spotted in the skies over Somerset. The dramatic cloud, which is rarely seen, is a formation of condensed water droplets with a rotating column of wind. If it touches the ground, it becomes classed as a tornado.
Craig Woolhouse, Head of Flood Incident Management at the Environment Agency, said: “We are expecting some very significant flooding in the coming days across large parts of the country and would strongly urge people to sign up to flood warnings, keep a close eye on the forecasts for their area and be prepared for flooding.”
An amber warning is the second highest warning and advises all Britons to be prepared. Storms can cause power cuts which will affect thousands of companies across the UK. Already the MFEST music festival in Leeds has been cancelled due to safety concerns over the weather.
