More Employees are Using Telephones for Post-Interview Follow Up
Many employers prefer to speak to an interviewee via a telephone for a post interview follow up, according to a recent study.
The survey was conducted by an independent research group and found that 91% out of 500 employers surveyed like to receive a phone call from candidates, thanking their potential employers for meeting with them.
Moving away from more traditional means of communication such as writing a formal letter, this method is more personal and the survey suggests that showing this added gratitude over the phone, could secure you the job over other applicants. Picking up the telephone is easy and making the extra effort will help you to appear keen, interested and polite.
Here are some top tips for speaking to future employers:
Follow up your Interview
If your feel the interview went well and you are suitable for the role why not contact the employer within 24 hours. This way you will be remembered for being polite and courteous and an employer will be pleased that you have a good telephone manner. Ensure that you get the correct name of the person who interviewed you and ask to speak to them in particular.
Be Confident
When making the all-important call make sure you speak clearly and concisely and note down what you need to say to avoid any waffle.
Highlight anything you missed
In a nerve-wracking interview scenario you can often forget to mention particular skills and experiences that you have. If you think this information is of high importance and is relevant to the role, briefly mention it to them. After all, this could help you compete with other candidates.
Show that you are valuable
Be enthusiastic in your approach to the interview and remind them of your skills and capabilities. This phone call would also be a good time to ask any questions before you get offered the job!
