Increasing Crime in Countryside Areas
Homes and farms based in the countryside have experienced more crime during the past year with a quarter of the crimes going unreported, according to a recent study.
The survey was completed by the National Farmers Union and outlined that 35% of farms have experienced an increase in crime between 2011 and 2012, and the survey also found that 28% of farms have suffered the consequences of one or more thefts.
Thieves appear to be targeting these agricultural areas as they are likely to be more remote and easy to escape from with the stolen goods. Farmers are finding that thieves are looking for valuable machinery, fuel and metal which are all in demand items that can be easily sold on at a profit.
The results also showed that 6% of burglaries occurred on farms, whilst 4% of people surveyed had experienced hare coursing and fly tipping on their farm.
It is clear that farmers are aware of the strain on the police force; however, 39% of people felt the police are yet to take action to some of the reported crimes.
Despite being involved in neighbourhood watch schemes within the farming community, people living in the countryside will have to monitor their security to ensure that crime is reduced in these areas.
Ensuring that your windows and especially your doors are secure in the summer months will help you to be rest assured that you can leave your property without it being at risk. Although this increase in theft is a challenge for the farming industry, it will encourage people to change their security levels and also work together as a community.
Investing in a Rockdoor front door will not only ensure that your country home or farm is protected but the experts also offer stable doors that are more suitable for farming properties.
