An Average Wedding Costs over £17K
Couples are spending more money than ever to get hitched, according to a recent survey. Findings reveal that the average wedding costs have soared to nearly £18,000.
The 2012 American Wedding Survey, published by Brides magazine, found those typical costs for a wedding like the honeymoon, brides dress and photography have increased and now the average wedding prices at £17,442.
The study shows that wedding costs have risen by over £5,000 in the last 10 years and couples are forking out the hefty charges themselves rather than relying on their parents’ purse strings. In 2009, only 29% of couples paid for the wedding themselves; whereas three years later over 36% now cover the expenditures.
But whilst the spending is on the rise, many duos are actively aiming to save money with cost-cutting measures such as DIY wedding invitations and custom-made playlists.
According to the research, the average cost of a bride’s dress is £876; £94 is spent on each bridesmaid’s dress; and the typical groomsman outfit equates to £89. A whopping £1,413 is spent on photography; the normal cost of a ring is £1,676; and the standard price for a wedding cake is £314.
Further findings reveal that the average number of guests invited is 153; 42% of brides and grooms have a sit down meal; and the average time of engagement is 14.7 months.
