Forest and climate campaigner, FERN, FERNDeadline for application: 24 January 2017
FERN are looking to recruit a forest and climate campaigner.Location: Brussels
Fern is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and a Dutch Stichting created in 1995 to keep track of the European Union's involvement in forests and coordinate NGO activities at the European level.
Forest and climate is one of Fern's most important campaign areas in 2017-2018 as the EU will be finalising significant related legislation.
Of particular importance is the 2030 EU climate & energy framework which includes a regulation on land use land use change and forestry and a Renewable Energy Directive (see http://www.fern.org/RED).
Fern is also involved in policy debates about the role of land and forests for negative emissions and a wider ‘bioeconomy’.
2017 is a make-or-break year for bioenergy. Controversial bioenergy sustainability policies will be discussed in the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.
The forest and climate campaigner will focus on Fern’s bioenergy campaign and support the wider aims of Fern’s forest and climate work.
The position will be based in Brussels, and the ideal candidate will be able to start by the 6 March.
