The EFTA Surveillance Authority monitors compliance by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway with the law of the European Economic Area (EEA), enabling those countries to participate in the European internal market. In monitoring and enforcing the EEA Agreement, the Authority has powers that correspond to those of the European Commission.  The Authority is based in Brussels and operates independently of the EFTA States. The Authority is led by a College which consists of three members appointed by the EEA EFTA States. 

For both positions applicants must display good knowledge of general EEA law in combination with knowledge about the EFTA States.

(A)       Officer – Transport

One position will be assigned to the Directorate’s Transport unit, which is responsible for monitoring the EEA EFTA States’ implementation and application in the EEA Agreement in the field of transport, inter alia relating to maritime- and aviation security. The successful candidate will undertake general case handling, e.g. drafting decisions, handling complaints, examining implementation of EEA legislation and carry out transport security inspections. The position will require frequent travel and a security clearance. Knowledge of shipping- and maritime law is desirable 

(B)       Officer – General Internal Market

The other position will be assigned to the Directorate’s General Internal Market unit, which is responsible for surveillance of the EEA EFTA States application and implementation of internal market law other than transport or food safety. Advanced knowledge of Internal Market Law (four freedoms in particular) is an essential requirement for this position. The successful candidate will undertake general case handling, in particular drafting legal opinions, handling complaints, leading infringement proceedings and examining implementation of EEA legislation
