The main task of the EDA is to support the Council and the Member States in their effort to improve the Union's defence capabilities in the field of crisis management and to sustain the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) as it currently stands and as it develops in the future.

The Agency is an "outward-facing" organisation, constantly interacting with its shareholders, the participating Member States, as well as with a wide range of stakeholders. It works in an integrated way, with multi-disciplinary teams representing all the Agency's functional areas, to realise its objectives. Its business processes are flexible and oriented towards achieving results. Staff at all levels need to demonstrate the corresponding qualities of commitment, flexibility, innovation, and team-working; to work effectively with shareholders and stakeholder groups, formal and informal; and to operate without the need for detailed direction.

Duties

Under the supervision of the Legal Advisor/DPO, the Assistant Data Protection/Legal Officer will be responsible for the following activities:

  • process in the first instance any questions, from staff members or external stakeholders, relating to the data protection, in support of the DPO;
  • assist or represent the DPO in awareness raising meetings, trainings, as relevant;
  • build and maintain the Legal/DPO internal and external sites and compile, maintain and supervise the overall reference filing related to Legal/DPO matters in the Agency;
  • analyse and research legal questions affecting the Agency under the EU legal framework, under Council Decision 2015/1835, as well as under internal rules and regulations as required;
  • assist the Legal Advisor in preparing legal texts, internal notes and other legal documents in support of sound and coherent legal advice;
  • assist, as required, in the preparation of agreements, MoUs or other legal documents prepared by other Units and/or Directorates of the gency;
  • take on additional tasks as required in the interest of the service.
