EU foreign ministers to hold talks on European constitution

07 April 2006, 09:56 CET

An informal meeting of EU foreign ministers will take place in Austria on May 27-28 to discuss the future of the European constitution, Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik, whose country holds the EU presidency, has announced.

"I was asked by my colleagues at the European Council to organise an informal meeting on the future of Europe," Plassnik said in a statement published late Thursday on the Austrian presidency's website.

She said on the issue of the European constitution, there have been "many proposals, but none that have the unified support of 25 (member) states."

She added the meeting "shows a change in mood, a small but not insignificant step."

"We will not be able to give any answers (on the constitution) yet in June, but we should make it clear what a possible further roadmap may look like," she said.
