(BRUSSELS) - Eurozone inflation was stable at 1.9 percent in December compared to November, in line with the ECB's preferred level of close to but less than 2.0 percent, according to data released Thursday.

The figure, a first estimate by the European Union's Eurostat data agency based on early price information from some of the 13 eurozone members and energy price data, was in line with market expectations.

Definitive figures for December are due to be released on January 17.
