Eurozone retail sales pick up in October
Retail sales in the 12 countries sharing the euro rose 0.3 percent in October over one month and 1.1 percent over one year, according to the European Union's Eurostat data agency on Tuesday.
The figures were also broadly in line with private economists' forecasts for an increase of 0.1 percent over one month and 1.1 percent over one year, as polled by financial news agency AFX News.
The results marked an improvement from September when the volume of eurozone retail trade slumped 1.0 percent over one month and rose 1.1 percent over one year.
Eurostat revised the September figures from a previous estimate that sales had fallen 0.6 percent over one month and had risen 1.4 percent over 12 months.
Meanwhile, retail sales in the 25-nation European Union rose 0.2 percent in October over one month and 2.2 percent over one year.
