Eurozone industrial orders slow in September

Factories in the 12 countries sharing the euro saw demand slow in September after new industrial orders boomed in August, data released Wednesday by the EU's Eurostat data agency showed.

New industrial orders slipped 1.3 percent in September over one month and rose 7.6 percent over one year, Eurostat said.

The data marked a slowdown from August when new orders jumped 3.8 percent over one month and 14.5 percent over one year.

Private economists had expected a decrease of 2.7 percent over one month and an increase of 9.6 percent over one year, according to a poll by the financial news agency AFX News.

The monthly decrease was driven by a fall in orders for machinery and equipment, basic metals and fabricated metal products, chemicals and chemical products and textiles and textile products.

Meanwhile, orders for electrical and electronic equipment and transport equipment resisted the trend and expanded in September.

In the 25-nation European Union, new industrial orders fell 1.0 percent in September and grew 7.6 percent over one year.
