Bulgaria joined the European Union on 1 January 2007 and has committed to adopt the euro once it fulfils the necessary conditions.

Euro information

Status: Bulgaria is not yet a member of the euro area. The lev is not yet within the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM II).

Exchange rate: The current euro to lev foreign exchange reference rate can be consulted on the website of the European Central Bank (updated daily).

Adoption of the euro: Bulgaria does not have a target date to adopt the euro.
