The Bouncing Czech?

Am I going crazy or did I completely mishear the statements made on 'europe direct' the other day?<BR>The Czech President said they were joining the EU to 'stop its' expansion', and a female politician said they were joining to 'stop the EU becoming a counter-balance worldwide to the USA - as it was only thanks to the USA that Europe exists' (or words to that effect).<P>The emphasis in both cases was 'stop the EU' What sort of Membership qualification is this? <br>Norman Clark<br>
